South Dakota - August 17-21

From Wyoming, we headed east to South Dakota.  We visited Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, and we even stopped at Wall Drug (For you east coast folks, Wall Drug is like South Dakota's version of South of the Border). We also drove through lots of farmland as we drove east toward Minnesota.

Mt Rushmore National Historic Site
It was so foggy when we arrived that you couldn't see the mountain,
but it started clearing soon after.
A view from another angle and with less fog.
View from the entrance.
By the time we left, the fog had completely disappeared

The silo was about 10 miles away from the launch facility.  There are
many missile silos scattered around rural South Dakota.
Some, but not all, have been deactivated as a result of Arms Control Agreements

We passed acres and acres of bright yellow fields as we drove east in South Dakota

We saw lots of grain elevators too.
