Alaska - The Denali Highway - June 30-July 2

After leaving Fairbanks, we headed south along the Parks Highway.  We stopped for lunch at 49th State Brewing which we had visited when we came to Alaska in 2012.  We made a quick stop at Denali National Park so we could stamp out National Park Passport book as we did not have it with us when we visited last time.  We thought about staying, but there were no campsites available, so we continued on.  We turned east on the Denali Highway which is a 135 mile dirt road that is maintained by BLM.  The scenery is good, and because is it BLM land, there are lots of spots where you can pull off the road to camp.

Panorama from MacLaren Summit on the Denali Highway.  I know it is small,
but if you click on it, you should be able to see it better.

  1. We should have done the Denali Highway - Fairbanks was just completely socked in with smoke. And you had much better views! I wanted to try a bear at 49th - it looked like a great place to stop. Unfortunately, it was 10AM. Sad that I wanted a beer that early, but the traffic got to me. Very nice campsite - Boondocking is way better than crowded rv parks.
