On the road to retirement (and Maine)

As the year comes to a close, we find ourselves closer to retirement than we expected.  The original plan was for me to retire at the end of March and for Brett to retire at the end of May.  Raytheon had a different plan and Brett’s last day ended up being in the middle of November.  I am not lucky enough to get a deal like that, so my timing is still the end of March - March 28th to be precise.

Since one of us is essentially already retired, we thought it was a good time to start our blog.   We initially thought about this being a travel blog, but have decided to broaden the focus to include other aspects of retirement.   The blog is just one of the things we are doing to get ready for retirement.

In some ways, we actually started getting ready back in 2000 when we purchased a piece of land in Gouldsboro, Maine.  We weren’t really thinking about retirement at that point, but once we built the house, the plan to retire there began to solidify.  We are both New Englanders at heart. The need to be employed kept us elsewhere, but we always wanted to move back North.  And now we can!
