Getting Ready to sell the Virginia House...

We have begun the process of selling the house.  Our first step was to reach out to the real estate agent we worked with when we purchased the house more than 20 years ago.  We were pleased to find that she is still doing real estate and works out of an office just a few miles away.

Her initial suggestion was to put it on the market almost immediately, but we are not quite ready for that, so we are shooting for March 1st. A "Coming Soon" sign will go up in the yard about a month before that.  That gives us a couple of months to sort through the 20 years of stuff we have accumulated and to get the house in to tip top shape for showing.  You'd think that 2 months should be enough, particularly with Brett home full time, but...  Do you know how much stuff 3 people can accumulate in 20 years of living in the same house?  It is amazing!

Brett has been cleaning out his office - he completely filled a large recycling bin and gave away a stack of technical books several feet high but his office still looks full.  I've managed to empty out 2 drawers in my office filing cabinet and pack 1 shelf of travel related books.  My sister-in-law suggested that if we weren't filling our large garbage container every week, then we aren't doing it right.  Based on the recycling and trash pickups the last couple of weeks, I don't think that is going to be a problem.

In some ways, it has been fun digging through all this stuff.  We've found things we'd forgotten we had.  One thing in particular was pretty cool, but that is a story for another day...
